Reflecting on the 2020 Labor Day Fires

This holiday weekend comes with a lot of sentiments, as it usually signifies the end of summer break for families with children in school, the nights are already getting noticeably shorter, and there is a change in the air as fall approaches. After the 2020 Labor Day fires, this weekend also marks the anniversary of those harrowing events that tested our resiliency, caused almost immeasurable destruction and loss, and showed us the strength and care we have for each other as a community.

Surely none of us will forget what the skies looked like on those days, nor do any of us want to experience an event like that ever again. But we recognize that we are stronger as a community now having journeyed through it, and for that we are grateful. We will continue to advocate for the full restoration of the Santiam Canyon and its communities.

With that, we hope you have a safe and fun Labor Day Weekend, enjoying time with those you love.
