Marion County Elected Officials Sworn In
SALEM, Ore. – Jan. 3, 2023 – Today, Marion County Commissioners Kevin Cameron and Colm Willis were sworn into office. Also sworn in were County Treasurer Sam Brentano and Justice of the Peace Justin Kidd.
“It’s such a special time to be able to share the swearing in of these individuals with their family members,” said Commissioner Danielle Bethell. Many family members of the elected officials were in attendance.
Circuit Court Judge Tom Hart administered the oaths of office.
“I’m really excited for next year,” said Commissioner Cameron. “Thank you very much, it’s an honor to be here.”
Commissioner Cameron was appointed to the Board of Commissioners in June 2014, elected to his first term in November 2014, and re-elected in 2018 and 2022. Commissioner Cameron represents Marion County on the Marion County Budget Committee, the Marion County Extension & 4-H Service District, Oregon State Fair & Expo Council, and others.
Colm Willis was elected to the Board of Commissioners in November 2018. He was re-elected in 2022. He served as the chair of the Board of Commissioners during two federally declared disasters: the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and the 2020 Santiam Canyon Wildfires. Commissioner Willis represents Marion County on the Marion County Budget Committee, Marion County Housing Authority Board of Directors, and Marion County Extension & 4H Service District, among others.
“I just want you to know how deeply I love this community, Marion County,” said Commissioner Willis. “It’s a joy for me to have the opportunity to continue to serve alongside each of you, and I’m really grateful for that.”
Treasurer Brentano was appointed Marion County Treasurer by the Board of Commissioners in March 2022, and he was elected to the position in November 2022. He previously served on the Marion County Board of Commissioners from 2003 to 2020, focusing on solid waste, emergency management, and transportation issues.
“I just want to tell you how thrilled I am to still be involved with an organization and people that I dearly love,” said Treasurer Brentano. “It’s been a joy.”
Justice Kidd has been the justice of the peace for Marion County since June of 2021. He was reelected to his second term in the position in May of 2022. His term started today.
“I’m just struck with two emotions here,” said Justice Kidd. “One is pride, and one is thankfulness and humility.”
