Our Dog Shelter Needs Your Help
Our dog shelter is almost at capacity, so we went out to visit and found out how the community can get involved and help. There are some absolutely adorable pets here right now just waiting for a home.
As we spoke with Melissa Gable, the shelter’s director, we learned there are three main ways community members can assist right now if you are able.
Adopt a Dog
The first and most useful way to help with capacity is to adopt a dog. There are many to choose from, and they are all sweethearts and in need of a good, loving home. We spent some time with one of them, a Pitbull named Gracie, and we’d love to see her and others adopted. You can keep an eye on who’s still looking for a home on our adoptable dog portal.
Foster a Dog
If you are not in a position to keep a dog long term, but you would love to temporarily provide one with an environment where they will receive more one-on-one time and attention, you are also able to foster a dog from the shelter until it is adopted. There are currently 14 dogs being fostered at our shelter, and this frees up much-needed capacity as more dogs are found and brought to the facility. Without this foster program, we would be over capacity.
Volunteer
The final way you can get involved if you just love spending time with furry friends is to volunteer at the shelter. You can volunteer to be a dog walker or for a variety of other tasks. Even if you can’t adopt or foster one of these dogs, you can still spend time with them and show them some love.
